As usual I have mixed feelings about your article Bob. You are obviously passionate about the topic, and with good reason. I am with you 100% about the ridiculous sophistry that gender 'academics ' like Elizabeth Kerekere profess as science. You can't outrun biology no matter what their spurious social engineering propaganda says.

As far as termination goes, as a man, I feel uneasy about lecturing women about what they choose to do their body.

I will say that I don't think abortion should be used as a contraceptive. If a woman is sexually active and doesn't want children then there are better options. I also think 20 weeks and beyond is in general too late to choose,17 or 18 weeks is more than enough time to make a rational decision. Obviously if the case of rape, incest or significant foetal abnormalities there could be some flexibility.

I certainly don't want to live in some patriarchy driven Handmaid's Tale dystopia. It's telling when prolife activists are also proponents of harsh prison sentences. The children of unwanted pregnancies often end up in our courts and prisons. The interest of pro-lifers in a baby nearly always ends at birth.

Just a thought.

Thanks Andrew

"As far as termination goes, as a man, I feel uneasy about lecturing women about what they choose to do their body."

Does that mean you will not speak up against slavery unless you're a slave owner?

"I also think 20 weeks and beyond is in general too late to choose..."

Why is that? Why not 39 or 40 weeks. Why are you lecturing women?

"I certainly don't want to live in some patriarchy driven Handmaid's Tale dystopia."

Not sure if you're aware but it's generally women choosing abortions.

"It's telling when prolife activists are also proponents of harsh prison sentences."

Apples and oranges. But deterrent prison sentences to protect murders and child abuse - absolutely! Make them tougher.

"The interest of pro-lifers in a baby nearly always ends at birth."

Completely false. It's pro life groups that run pregnancy homes, adoption agencies, support families.

Some more work to do on your arguments Andrew :-)

Hi Andrew,

I am writing concerning your generalisation that unwanted children end up as criminals. That is so insulting!

I am a person born from an unwanted pregnancy.

My teenage mother wanted an abortion. She was unable to get one. I am eternally grateful, praise God!

I assure you, I am not a criminal, I've never appeared in court, or in prison. I was adopted into a loving family. Many couples are desperate to adopt a baby and provide them a loving and stable home.

'As far as termination goes, as a man, I feel uneasy about lecturing women about what they choose to do their body.' Not their body. A brand new person is being destroyed because it is inconvenient for them to birth and then adopt out.

Just a few of my thoughts.

Hi Mary, sorry if I offended you. I did use the wording 'often', not an absolute at all.

As to Bob's apples and oranges comment, does that not apply to his comparison with slavery? I am an atheist so I don't think in terms of religious beliefs, but I respect yours. If it can give you succour in times of trial then I am happy for you. I have a problem with people imposing their religious beliefs on other people though. I was brought up Catholic and the rights of the unborn child in that dogma always surpassed those of the mother. I feel that was a dangerous belief.

Sorry again if you feel offended. This was not my intention.

Thank you.

I am alive and grateful.

I am offended for all the voiceless babies who are murdered in what should be the safest place on earth for them. Millions every year.

I am heart-broken for them.
